Holsworthy and Stratton Show 2017

The 121st Holsworthy and Stratton Show is fast approaching and preparations are well underway.

As always the stock, horses and ponies are the main feature of the show with their prize giving parades during the afternoon, but as well as that we have a full timetable of other activities and entertainment, not just in the Haines Watts Main ring and entertainment ring but also around the showground.

Plans are well underway for the 121st Holsworthy and Stratton Agricultural show, which will take place on Thursday 24th August 2017. We are very excited to be hosting the Grand Finale of the Mole Valley Young Handlers competition. Young competitors will compete at a number of local shows, across the summer accumulating points, the overall winners will be announced at the show.

Young people are the future of the farming industry and at the show we like to ensure that all of them are made as welcome as possible. We pride ourselves on being a great day out for all the family and we have a superb range of entertainment for everyone. In the All Coast Media Entertainment ring, we have North Devon Gymnastics Group who always put on a superb demonstration. For the 1st time this year, CJ’s Dance School are joining us. We have Ferret racing, Falconry and Gun Dog Demonstrations. Free for anyone to ‘have a go’ we have Circus Skills, an Arts and Crafts Den and flower arranging workshops in our beautiful Flower Marquee, which is widely believed to be one of the best in the area.

For the more agile members of the public we have a huge ‘Football Darts’ at over 20ft high, it is the only one available in the South West. Can you kick the ball onto the sticky board?  Come and have a try. If that’s not enough to tire you out, we have our old favourite ‘Bubble football’ which is always a brilliant end to the day. Hilarious to watch and immensely fun if you are brave enough to have a go.

If this is all too exciting, we haven’t forgotten that we are first and foremost an agricultural show. We have a wide range of equestrian, cattle, sheep and pygmy goat classes. From tiny goats to huge bulls, we try to ensure there is a class for all. The grand parade of prize winners is a sight to behold.

In the Haines Watts Main ring there will be an exciting Inter-Team Relay, speed and precision will be the order of the day, as 8 teams of 4 riders compete over fences to be the fastest. Davisons Solicitors have kindly sponsored an amazing £500 prize fund.

The fun dog show is open to all, with all proceeds going to charity. And if all that isn’t enough, we have over 200 trade stands offering everything from handmade jewellery to huge agricultural machinery. We are famous for having a happy laid back atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming back our old friends and for those of you who have never been, this is the year to come and see what we are all about.
